Setanta Mosaic Mural, Dublin

Desmond Kinney’s 1974 mosaic project of Nassau Street in Dublin also goes by the name of the Táin Wall. This mural was made to commemorate ‘Setanta’ the Celtic God of Light. This mosaic mural depicts all the major events that occurred in the great Irish epic (legendary tale in literature), the Tain Bo Cúailnge set 2000 years ago.

The Chartist Mosaic Mural in Wales

Kenneth Budd is the mosaic artist who created the Chartist mural which is composed of 200,000 mosaic glass tiles. This mural was created in honor of the Newport Rising of 1839, where 22 demonstrators were killed by troops. This mural was controversially destroyed in 2013 to make a way for city centre redevelopment.

Marc Chagall Monumental Stained Glass, Chicago

This stained glass mural measures 244 cm x 978 cm and it was a gift from March Chagall to the Auxiliary Board of the Art institute of Chicago. The piece shows respect to the American Bicentennial, in memory of Mayor Richard J.Daley. Each pair of this joyful mural is signed by Marc Chagall in 1977.

The Metaphorest Project, Chicago

This mosaic mural is a metaphorical reminder of the potential building power of the arts and Grand Rapid’s youth. Tracy Van Duinen, Todd Osborne, Phil Schuster, Andy Bellomo, Grand Rapids and Michigan are the mosaic mural artists who designed the MetaPhorest Project winning $100,000 in 2011 for the second place prize for the capricious mixed-media mosaic award.

Tonantzin Renace’s Mural, San Francisco

Colette Crutcher is a mosaic artist who made the mural “Tonantzin Renace” on 16th Street near Sanchez in San Francisco, California. This artwork was made in honor of “Tonantzin”, the lunar Mother Goddess.

Genesis the Gift of Life, Dallas

The design of this mosaic is influenced by the Indian concept of the four elements, notice it for left to right: water, earth, fire and air. This mosaic artwork was originally commissioned by Peter and Waldo Stewart to show appreciation to the Stewart Building in Dallas. This mosaic was moved later to the entrance of the Dallas Museum of Art and restored in the 1990s.

The Hall of Memory Mosaic, Australian War Memorial

The hall of memory was resolved in 1937 and completed in 1958 to commemorate the sacrifices made by Australians in the First World War. Napier Waller was selected to design and install the mosaic on the basis of his reputation as a large-scale mural artist and mosaicist.

Soviet Mosaic Mural, Georgia

This incomplete tangible circle line is a monumental mosaic with pictures of Russian and Greek fables in the interior. The circle is incomplete to indicate the unknown future. The Russian-Georgian Friendship monument was built by the Russians dedicated to their 100 years of friendship.

Buzludzha Monumental Mosaic, Bulgaria

The Buzludzha Monument in Bulgaria was designed by Guéorguy Stoilov, in 1981 to reflect the secret meetings of the Bulgarian social democratic parties. This monument was abandoned in 1991, it stands now decayed and falling into ruins. Many of the colorful mosaic murals remain today, the artworks depict various scenes featuring the construction of a socialist society. This monument was built at a cost of 14.186 million Bulgarian leva.

Alfred Hitchcock Tribute, Leytonstone

The Greenwich Mural Workshop did a series of mosaic murals to honor Alfred Hitchcock as a director and producer born in Leystone. They celebrated his centenary with mosaic artworks portraying his life and movies, installed in the tube station. They started working on 17 mosaics in june 2000 to place them in the entrance corridors of Leytonstone Tube station and were unveiled in May 2001.
